The ASSE Summer Immersion Program in China gives you the chance to live like a local—without the structure of school or the commitment of a semester or year. It’s a culturally rich, eye-opening experience that’s also relaxed and fun.

You’ll stay with a caring Chinese host family and join in their daily summer activities. From early morning market visits to evening family-style dinners, you’ll experience the everyday routines that define local life. Some weekends may include trips to nearby towns, temple visits, picnics, or simply learning how to make dumplings together at home.

This six-week program allows you to absorb the language naturally. You’ll learn practical Mandarin expressions just by joining conversations during meals, games, or walks. No textbooks—just real-world learning through shared experiences. Because it’s summer, you’ll have more time to explore, relax, and bond with your host family and their friends. You may join local teens at a night market, attend a summer celebration, or enjoy time outdoors like a typical Chinese teen.
