Spending an academic year in Romania gives you the chance to truly immerse yourself in a new way of life. As a high school exchange student, you’ll attend classes with local teens. Some schools require uniforms, and teaching is often lecture-based—but teachers are respectful and classmates are curious and friendly. Many schools also offer after-school clubs, sports, or arts programs, where you can meet friends and share your interests.

Romanian holidays are full of meaning and community spirit. In December, children celebrate Saint Nicholas Day by leaving boots out for gifts. Christmas includes traditional caroling, hearty family meals, and folk dances. Easter is another major celebration, with egg painting, candlelit church services, and a joyful feast after a fasting period. These holidays give you a deeper understanding of Romanian culture and the values of family, tradition, and spirituality.

Living in Romania for a full school year lets you witness how people live through all four seasons—from snowy village streets in winter to colorful mountain trails in spring and cozy autumn gatherings. It’s a year full of real-life lessons and cultural discovery.
