  • Fun Facts About China:
    • The Great Wall is over 13,000 miles long
The Great Wall of China stretches so far it could wrap around the U.S. nearly 5 times. It’s one of the most iconic and impressive structures ever built and yes, walking on it feels like stepping into a real-life adventure movie.

    • Chinese food in China is very different from takeout
Forget orange chicken and fortune cookies, those aren’t even Chinese! In China, you’ll try authentic street food, fresh noodles, “dim sum”, and hot pot… and yes, you’ll eat it all with chopsticks.

    • The dragon is a symbol of power and luck
In Chinese culture, dragons aren’t scary, they’re actually seen as cool, powerful, and lucky. That’s why they’re everywhere during parades, festivals, and New Year’s celebrations.

    • The Lunar New Year is the biggest celebration
Also known as Spring Festival, it’s packed with fireworks, red envelopes full of money, and amazing family feasts. It’s basically China’s version of Christmas, New Year, and the Fourth of July—all in one!

    • China is super high-tech
You can pay for everything with your smartphone—even from a street vendor. It’s a mix of ancient tradition and futuristic living all rolled into one.

    • China is home to the giant panda
These adorable black-and-white bears are only found in China’s Sichuan region. Locals love them so much, pandas are even considered a national treasure.

As an ASSE high school exchange student in China, you’ll live with a carefully selected host family and immerse yourself in local customs, family life, and daily routines. Whether they live in a bustling metropolis or a quiet countryside village, your host family will help you experience the unique contrasts that define modern China—where ancient temples and high-rises can exist side-by-side. While many Chinese families still cultivate crops like rice and tea with traditional techniques, cities buzz with high-speed trains, e-payment apps, and tech innovation.

Attending a Chinese high school introduces you to an academic system that values discipline, respect, and hard work. Education is a top priority, and your classmates will be highly focused on academic success. You’ll gain a new perspective on global learning styles and discover how to thrive in a competitive, fast-paced school environment.

Mandarin Chinese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and learning it through full immersion gives you a real advantage in future careers, global communication, and international travel. Even if you’re just beginning, hearing and using Mandarin daily will accelerate your progress faster than any classroom
