Spending a year abroad in Thailand offers the chance to experience a different education system, enjoy authentic Thai cuisine, and fully embrace local life. In Thailand, the school year typically runs from May to February or March, with a mid-year break in October. However, our partner schools can welcome you in August to align with the U.S. school year, or you can begin in May alongside Thai students at the start of their academic year.

Schools emphasize respect, community, and discipline. You’ll typically wear a school uniform, participate in daily morning assemblies, and focus on both academic and moral development. Unique courses such as Thai classical dance, Buddhism, or the Thai language often complement traditional subjects.

Outside of class, Thai teens gather at night markets, spend weekends at the beach, or hang out at movies or karaoke nights. You might join local Muay Thai classes or participate in school clubs and sports. Throughout the year, you’ll experience vibrant holidays like Songkran (the Thai New Year with nationwide water fights) and Loy Krathong, when people float candles and flowers on rivers by moonlight.
