High School Exchange in Spain (15-18 years old)

In Spain, exchange students experience a culture that places strong emphasis on family and friendship. You’ll enjoy shared meals with your entire host family and adapt to a relaxed lifestyle that often includes a two-hour lunch break in the middle of the day. During your study abroad program, you’ll learn to appreciate the distinct regions of Spain—such as Catalonia or Galicia—each with its own language, customs, and cultural identity.

No Language Requirement! Whether you speak the language or not, you’ll pick it up naturally through school, family life, and everyday conversations.

  • Fun Facts About Spain:
    • Spain Has Four Official Languages While Spanish (Castellano) is spoken everywhere, other regions have their own languages—like Catalan in Barcelona, Basque in the north, and Galician in the west!

    • Churros for Breakfast? Yes, Please! Churros dipped in thick hot chocolate are a common breakfast treat. Trust us, it’s as good as it sounds.

    • Spain Has Over 5,000 Miles of Coastline Whether you’re into surfing, swimming, or just chilling at the beach, Spain’s sunny coastline has something for everyone.

    • Esports and Soccer Are Huge. Spain is home to world-famous soccer teams like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. But esports and gaming culture are growing fast too!

    • Dinner Is Late (But Delicious!) Spaniards usually eat dinner around 9 or 10 p.m.—and it’s often a long, social meal. Expect lots of delicious tapas (small shared plates) and family time.

Embrace Spain’s diversity as you explore its rich history, regional cuisines, varied architecture, and vibrant music scene. From world-class museums and ancient fortresses to sun-soaked beaches and lively parks, there’s always something to discover. Visit the captivating city of Seville, admire Antoni Gaudí’s iconic works in Barcelona, try authentic paella with your host family, or spend the evening at a Flamenco show or relaxing in a local café with friends.

As an ASSE exchange student in Spain, you’ll have countless opportunities to socialize, explore, and grow. It’s a life-changing way to study abroad in high school while learning one of the world’s most widely spoken and useful languages.
