Study Abroad Scholarships 

Each year, ASSE International awards a limited number of study abroad scholarships to help exceptional North American students take part in a high school exchange program overseas. If you’re passionate about learning about other cultures, committed to academic excellence, and in need of financial assistance, this could be your chance to study abroad on scholarship. 

Scholarship Opportunities 

  • Walter Danielson Scholarship

    To honor Walter Danielson and his great achievements in establishing ASSE International to promote international and cultural understanding, this full scholarship is awarded annually to one outstanding student from North America. It includes: 

    • 100% of the program fee 

    • Round-trip airfare 

    • One cultural field trip in the host country 

    • $300/month pocket money 

ASSE Youth Exchange Ambassador Scholarships

Several of these prestigious scholarships are awarded each year. They cover 90% of the program fee, making the dream of studying abroad more accessible.

Who Can Apply? 

To be considered, students must: 

  • Be from North America 

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.4 (B+ average) 

  • Demonstrate financial need 

  • Show strong motivation to take part in a high school exchange program 

How to Apply?

In addition to your standard program application, you’ll need: 

  • A two-page essay: “Why I would like to be an exchange student…” 

  • A recommendation from your ASSE Representative after your interview 

  • A completed Financial Profile Form, including your family’s most recent tax return 

  • A well-organized, thoughtful application packet, including your “Dear Host Family” letter and photo collage 

All documents must be submitted by February 15, 2026. 

Scholarship recipients are selected based on academics, personal essay, financial need, and the overall quality of the application.
